Putting your logo on apparel – shirts, hats, hoodies – is one of the best ways to build a brand. But printed and stitched logos have special requirements. Here is what to know.
Printing vs. embroidery
Printing (screen print or DTG) reproduces detail and color well and needs vector or high-resolution art. Embroidery stitches thread and needs a special DST digitized file – fine details and gradients get simplified.
What is a DST file?
A DST file tells an embroidery machine exactly where to place each stitch. Your standard logo files cannot be embroidered directly – they must be digitized into DST first. Always request it if you plan on branded apparel.

Design tips for apparel
- Keep it bold – thin lines vanish in thread and small prints.
- Limit colors – fewer colors lower print and stitch costs.
- Have a one-color version ready for caps and sleeves.
